Rising Fuel Prices

The rally took place among others in Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Makassar on Friday night (21/06) until the early hours of Saturday (22/06). Demonstration driven primarily by the students various universities.

In Jakarta protesters from the National University student was involved in clashes with security forces, but the forces managed to disperse the students. They reportedly threw stones, bottles and Molotov cocktails at police and police responded by firing tear gas.

Demonstrations also took place in the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta, ahead of the announcement of fuel price increases. Most mob then moved to Jalan Diponegoro. They damaged several public facilities and damaging passing cars.

In Bandung, student protests also took place chaos.

Demonstration on the eve of the announcement of the fuel price hike is not for the protests when the House passed a bill Click Proposed Revised in 2013 which includes cuts to fuel subsidies.

Meanwhile, the owners of motor vehicles queuing to buy fuel in Fuel Filling Stations General before midnight Friday. The motorcycle and car owners want to fill up the tank before the price premium to Rp 6.500/liter and diesel to Rp 5.500/liter enforced. Both the original price of Rp 4.500/liter.

  1. The increase in fuel prices is a negative impact on the poor. Therefore banya citizens less able to do a demo. But the demonstration did not affect the government to raise the price of fuel itself. The reason the Government revoked the fuel subsidy because the subsidy is supposed to be for the poor, but about 80% of those subsidies into the hands of the wrong or right on target. As a result of the increase in fuel prices affects the price of other basic commodities prices and rising public transport fares. In this case I as BBM users also slightly less agree on government regulations that raise fuel prices but if that's my goodness this country support the government's legislation.
